Who should attend 

Anyone at any level in the organisation who writes letters that reflect the firms professionalism. 

Aim of the course 

A full day course teaching you techniques for ensuring your letters are clear, concise, convey the intended meaning and create a professional impression.
 

Course content 

Throughout this course participants will actually practise the techniques discussed in order that they have mastered these when they leave. 

The course looks at 3 areas, writing with clarity, ensuring the content is technically correct, writing in the style that is most appropriate for your firm and your clients.

  • Clarity
    • Redundant Words
    • The ‘Fog’ Factor
    • Clear words / avoiding jargon
    • Sentence length and the order of information
    • A very fast technique for drafting / editing letters
    • The modern way to layout letters and emails
     
  • Quality
    • Grammar – common errors
    • Apostrophes - the 4 situations you need to know
    • Tabulation - 2 types and the correct punctuation
    • Using colons and semi-colons correctly
     
  • Style
    • Using enthusiastic openings to make people feel important to you
    • Being definite to create confidence in your organisation
    • Active and Passive expressions to create the appropriate tone
    • Whether to make your communication personal or impersonal
    • Mentioning ‘Benefits’ or ‘Features’ to highlight the attributes of your organisation
    • Communicating so as to create a positive impression
    • Special techniques for dealing with complaints

In addition to course notes delegates will receive a "wallchart" checklist to remind them of the key points
