Who should attend 

Anyone at any level in the organisation who needs to write letters and emails that are clear, concise and professional. 

Aim of the course 

A full day training course teaching you techniques for ensuring your letters and emails are clear, concise, convey the intended meaning and create a professional impression. The techniques will also enable you to create letters and emails with much greater speed.
 

Course content 

Throughout this course participants will actually practise the techniques discussed. They will therefore be able to make use of them immediately following the course.

The course looks at 3 areas: writing with clarity, ensuring the content is technically correct and writing in the style that is most appropriate for your organisation.

  • Clarity
    Redundant Words
    • Using Clear words / avoiding jargon
    • Sentence length
    • A very fast technique for drafting / editing letters
    • The modern way to layout letters and emails
     
  • Quality
    • Grammar – common errors
    • Apostrophes - the 4 situations you need to know
    • Tabulation - 2 types and the correct punctuation
    • Using colons and semi-colons correctly
     
  • Style
    • Using enthusiastic openings to make people feel important 
    • Being definite to create confidence in your organisation
    • Active and Passive expressions to create the appropriate tone
    • Whether to make your communication personal or impersonal
    • Mentioning ‘Benefits’ or ‘Features’ to highlight the attributes of your organisation
    • Communicating so as to create a positive impression
    • Special techniques for dealing with complaints

In addition to comprehensive course notes participants will receive a "wallchart" checklist to remind them of the key points
