EV Charging Installations Course Overview

Delivered over two days, the City & Guilds 2921-34 EV Course will teach you how to design, install, and maintain electric vehicle supply equipment and associated circuits in domestic and small commercial settings.

Course Topics

  • Requirements relating to electric vehicle charging equipment
  • The different types and features of electric vehicle charging equipment
  • Design and installation of electric vehicle charging equipment
  • Requirements for inspection, testing, commissioning, and handover of electric vehicle charging equipment and circuits
  • Use of vehicles as electrical energy storage systems as part of prosumer installations

Practical Emphasis

Lessons blend real-world installation scenarios with mock commissioning and testing exercises.

Entry Requirements

Prerequisites

This course is exclusively for practising electricians. You must be over 18 and hold one of the following technical qualifications:

  • City & Guilds NVQ Level 3 diplomas (e.g., 2357) or equivalent
  • ECS Gold Card, JIB Electrician or Approved Electrician card
  • Qualifications must be current (typically within 5 years) or supported by CPD evidence

Additionally, we recommend that candidates have a current certificate in the latest wiring regulations. Furthermore, all potential students must be proficient in English and Maths.

How will I be assessed?

At the end of the programme, you will sit two open-book exams:

  • A short answer test covering theory and design scenarios (90 mins)
  • An online 28-question multiple-choice assessment (45 mins)

What qualification will I gain?

Upon completing the course and passing the above exams, you will be awarded a City & Guilds-accredited Level 3 certificate in the Design and Installation of Domestic and Small Commercial Electric Vehicle Charging Installations.

Does everyone need this qualification now?

Starting September 2024, 2921 34 replaces the older 2921 31 qualification, and 2921 31 will no longer be available after October 2024.

Are textbooks included in the course fee?

Course materials (e.g. workbooks) are provided in the fee. However, IET reference books are NOT included.
