Becoming a fully qualified electrician in the UK requires a longer and more structured training route than a short course can provide. This includes completing formal qualifications such as an NVQ Level 3, gaining extensive on-site work experience, and passing the AM2 assessment. These requirements must be achieved through employment or an apprenticeship with supervised practical work in commercial and industrial environments.
Our training centre specialises in beginner electrical courses and the Domestic Electrical Installer (Part P) qualification, which is designed for those working in domestic properties only. While we do not train learners to become electricians, we provide the essential knowledge and practical skills needed to carry out electrical work safely and legally within residential settings.
If your goal is to become a fully qualified electrician, we recommend reading our How to Become an Electrician guide, which explains the full training pathway, qualifications, and experience required to achieve electrician status in the UK.
A Domestic Electrical Installer is someone who is trained and qualified to carry out electrical work safely within residential properties such as houses and flats. This typically includes installing and maintaining lighting, sockets, and other fixed electrical equipment in domestic environments only.
Our Domestic Electrical Installer courses are designed specifically for this role and lead to a Part P qualification, which allows learners to carry out certain types of electrical work in domestic dwellings in line with Building Regulations. These courses are ideal for beginners and those in complementary trades such as builders, plumbers, and property maintenance professionals who want to add electrical skills to their existing services.
It is important to note that a Domestic Electrical Installer is not the same as a fully qualified electrician. This role does not permit work in commercial or industrial settings and does not follow the full electrician qualification pathway.
No previous electrical experience is required. Our beginner electrical courses are designed for individuals starting from scratch, as well as tradespeople looking to add electrical skills to their existing trade.
There is no beginner electrical course that on its own allows you to join a Competent Person Scheme (CPS). CPS membership is reserved for individuals who hold the required electrician-level qualifications set by scheme providers.
Domestic Electrical Installer DEI Training package (and Part P Course) covers electrical work as defined in the Building Regulations and complies with BS7671. It is designed for installers working within the electrical or related industries to improve their electrical skills, knowledge, and understanding of health and safety when working on or with electrical installations and equipment.
These courses are not intended to turn a non-qualified or non-trade person into an electrician, but instead provides a stronger understanding of safe working practices and regulatory requirements for domestic electrical work.
Further guidance on CPS requirements is available in the official scheme documentation from the IET. A full list of recognised Competent Person Schemes can be found on the UK Government Communities website.

Trusted Since 2001
We’ve supported hundreds of learners in becoming domestic electrical installers.
Our beginner electrical courses are designed to support individuals with little or no prior experience who want to develop practical skills in domestic electrical installation. Whether you are looking to start a new career or enhance your current trade, our training provides a strong foundation in electrical safety, regulations, and hands-on installation work within residential properties.
These courses are ideal for builders, plumbers, property managers, and those working in complementary trades who want to expand their skill set. It is important to understand that we do not train learners to become electricians. Instead, our courses prepare you to work safely in domestic properties, and the Domestic Electrical Installer package leads to a Part P qualification, allowing you to carry out domestic electrical work legally and competently.
For those whose goal is to become a fully qualified electrician, a different training pathway is required. We recommend reading our guide on How to Become an Electrician, which outlines the full qualifications, experience, and certification process needed to work as an electrician in commercial and industrial settings.
Enrolling in our courses not only builds practical electrical skills but also enhances professional credibility and opens up opportunities in domestic property work. With hands-on learning, expert tutors, and a supportive environment, our beginner electrical courses are the perfect starting point for anyone looking to develop a career or additional skills in domestic electrical installation.
