Our Domestic Electrical Installer Course Package brings together key training that can take learners from a beginner level through to understanding practical installation, testing and Part P essentials.
Part P of the Building Regulations is a section of UK law that covers electrical safety in domestic dwellings. Its purpose is to ensure that electrical installation work in homes is carried out safely to prevent electric shock, fire, or injury.
Key points about Part P:
- Applies to all new electrical installations in domestic properties, as well as significant alterations or extensions.
- Covers high-risk areas, such as bathrooms, kitchens, and consumer units.
- Requires work to meet legal safety standards and, in some cases, notification to building control.
- Aims to protect people and property by ensuring installations are safe, compliant, and professionally assessed.
Completion of a Part P Domestic Electrical Installer course teaches the rules, practical skills, and safety requirements necessary to carry out domestic electrical work safely and legally — though it does not make you a fully qualified electrician.
A domestic electrical installer is trained to carry out safe electrical work within domestic properties, such as installing or replacing sockets, lighting, or other minor electrical circuits. Their training, including Part P qualification, focuses on residential installations that do not require notification under Building Regulations.
An electrician, by contrast, has broader qualifications and experience, allowing them to work on all types of electrical systems, including commercial, industrial, and high-risk installations. Electricians can design, install, and certify complex electrical systems, whereas domestic electrical installers are limited to compliant work within homes.
There is no Domestic Electrical Installer (DEI) course that alone qualifies you to join a Competent Person Scheme (CPS). CPS membership is only available to individuals who hold the electrician-level qualifications required by the scheme providers.
Our DEI Training Package, including the Part P qualification, is designed for operatives carrying out domestic electrical work that is not notifiable under Building Regulations. This typically includes professionals for whom electrical work is a secondary task, such as heating installers, bathroom and kitchen fitters, builders, and domestic appliance installers.
For detailed information on CPS requirements, please refer to the official IET scheme documents or contact us directly.
A full list of recognised Competent Person Schemes is available on the UK Government CPS website.

Our domestic installer training courses provide a solid foundation in safe electrical installation for residential properties. Designed for tradespeople, builders, and property professionals, the courses focus on developing the practical skills and knowledge required to work confidently as a domestic electrical installer. Training covers key areas such as electrical principles, safe isolation, inspection and testing, and compliance with Part P of the Building Regulations. Learners gain the confidence to recognise hazards, work safely within dwellings, and carry out domestic electrical tasks that do not require notification under Building Regulations.
For beginners, the Domestic Electrical Installer Course Package combines five essential courses over fourteen days. It provides hands-on experience, electrical theory, and practical training, and culminates in a Part P qualification, ensuring learners understand legal and safety requirements and gain the practical skills needed to complete compliant domestic installations.
The Part P Domestic Electrical Installer course can also be taken as a standalone option, ideal for professionals who carry out electrical work as a secondary task, including heating installers, bathroom and kitchen fitters, builders, domestic appliance installers, property managers, and DIY enthusiasts.
It is important to note that this training does not qualify participants as electricians. Upon successful completion, learners become qualified domestic electrical installers, able to carry out safe, compliant electrical work within domestic dwellings. Our DEI courses provide a practical, accessible pathway into residential electrical work, helping learners improve safety, meet legal obligations, and build a strong foundation for further development as a domestic installer.
