The City & Guilds HVTC1 Dielectric Strength Testing Course is designed for electrical
professionals working with high voltage cables, transformers, and switchgear (up to 15kV). This specialised training focuses on pressure and dielectric strength testing, ensuring candidates understand how to assess insulation integrity safely and effectively.
Ideal for engineers, technicians, and maintenance staff in the power generation and distribution sectors, the course aligns with current industry regulations and standards. It provides essential knowledge and practical skills to confidently conduct dielectric testing and pressure testing in demanding environments.
Mastering dielectric strength testing is vital for maintaining the reliability and safety of high-voltage electrical equipment (up to 15kV). This qualification equips you with the expertise to identify insulation weaknesses before faults develop, helping to reduce downtime and costly repairs.
Our course combines thorough theoretical instruction with hands-on training using industry-standard equipment, led by experienced tutors. Completing this course demonstrates your competence in a critical area of electrical testing, enhancing your career prospects in the electrical and utilities industries.
This comprehensive course covers the principles and practices of dielectric strength and pressure testing (or hipot testing) for high-voltage equipment.
Electrical engineers, technicians, and maintenance personnel working with high voltage equipment.
There are no formal entry requirements for enrolling on this course. However, it is highly recommended that attendees have significant electrical experience, working as a high-voltage engineer or technician. Additionally, all attendees must be aged 18 years or older, and have a good command of written and spoken English.
Yes, it covers all current safety standards for high voltage dielectric and pressure (hipot) testing.
Upon completing the course and passing the practical and written examinations, candidates will be awarded a Certificate of Competency accredited by City & Guilds. Participants who choose not to sit the exams, or who are unsuccessful in doing so, will receive a Certificate of Attendance.
It opens opportunities in power utilities, electrical maintenance, and testing roles, highlighting your specialised skills in high voltage environments.
