Over five days, this course combines classroom modules and practical switching exercises to teach safe working procedures and best practices in relation to wind turbine power distribution systems.

Learning Outcomes

What skills will I learn?

On successful completion, delegates will be able to:

  • Execute safe switching of power distribution networks in wind turbines
  • Apply high voltage safety rules and company SAP procedures
  • Issue and manage safety permits using key safes and multihasps
  • Demonstrate competency through both practical switching and written assessments

How will I be assessed?

At the end of the course, candidates will be assessed via a written and practical exam.

What qualification will I gain?

Upon completing the course and passing the assessments, candidates will be awarded a Certificate of Competency accredited by City & Guilds. Should attendees choose not to sit the exams, or be unsuccessful in doing so, they will gain a Certificate of Attendance.

Prerequisites

Who is this course suitable for?

This course is intended for Authorised Persons, engineers, supervisors, or technicians currently working in, or moving into, the renewable energy sector with HV switching responsibilities. 

Entry Requirements

Attendees must have significant experience in inspecting, operating, maintaining, and repairing high-voltage power systems, ideally from onshore/offshore wind turbine maintenance or operation. If you currently have limited HV experience, consider enrolling on our HVSO6 Introduction to the Safe Operation of 15kV Switchgear course first.

Additionally, all attendees must be aged 18 or older and have a good command of written and spoken English.

Who should take the HVWP1 SAP course?

This course is intended for Authorised Persons, engineers, supervisors, or technicians currently working in, or moving into, the renewable energy sector with HV switching responsibilities. 

What assessments are included?

We recommend completing our HVSO6 course to build foundational knowledge before SAP-level training.
