Our City & Guilds HVWP1 Wind Turbine Safe Switching of Power Distribution Networks course is a five-day SAP (Senior Authorisation Person) programme tailored for engineers, supervisors and technicians working in the renewable energy sector. You’ll learn to carry out safe switching operations on turbine power distribution systems in compliance with Electricity at Work Regulations and wind turbine safety rules.
Delivered at our purpose-built high voltage training centres, you’ll develop competence through both classroom learning and live simulated switching sessions (at a safe low voltage).
Completing this City & Guilds-accredited SAP course empowers you to manage and execute high voltage switching on onshore and offshore wind turbine networks. It’s essential for those responsible for operational safety and compliance on turbines.
Our expert instructors blend theoretical teaching with practical sessions using mock HV systems (run at a safe low voltage), helping you leave with a recognised certificate of competency and the confidence to follow and issue safety documentation under company rules.
Over five days, this course combines classroom modules and practical switching exercises to teach safe working procedures and best practices in relation to wind turbine power distribution systems.
This course is intended for Authorised Persons, engineers, supervisors, or technicians currently working in, or moving into, the renewable energy sector with HV switching responsibilities.
This course is assessed via one written and one practical exam.
Upon completing the course and passing both exams, you will be awarded a City & Guilds-accredited Certificate of Competency. If you choose not to sit the exams, or are unsuccessful in doing so, you will receive a Certificate of Attendance.
Prior experience of HV power systems is essential. A good level of written and spoken English is required.
Yes, this SAP training applies to both onshore and offshore wind turbine power systems.
We recommend completing our HVSO6 course to build foundational knowledge before SAP-level training.
