Overview
This industry recognised programme (DNGA3) delivers comprehensive training across the following key
areas:
- Gas legislation, health &
safety, and unsafe situations
- Combustion theory, control and
flue/ventilation assessments
- Pressure, flow, tightness testing,
purging, and safe isolation
- Domestic gas pipework installation
and sizing techniques
- Electrical systems related to gas
installations
- Heating design, heat loss
calculations and comfort conditioning
- Appliance installation and servicing
for boilers and water heaters
- Principles of fault diagnosis and
meter installations
- On site supervised maintenance and
gas emergency response
Practical and Portfolio Work
Candidates complete formative assessments and mini practical tests in centre before building an
on site portfolio under a Gas Safe mentor. Successful delivery includes a formal LCL Awards MLP completion
certificate.
Entry Requirements
Should I enrol on this course?
This course suits both newcomers and those with experience.
- No formal gas entry qualifications
are required.
- Candidates must have English and
maths at Level 1 standard.
- All participants require access to
on site gas work under a registered Gas Safe engineer for at least 18 weeks to build portfolio evidence.
Structure & Routes
There are two delivery routes:
New Entrants (DNGA3 NE)
- Full centre based MLP programme
(typically 4–6 weeks), followed by supervised on site work.
Experienced Operatives (APL or RPL variant)
- Accelerated pathway for applicants
with related trade qualifications, involving selective modules and direct transition to on site portfolio
building.
Whichever route you follow, expect guided learning hours as defined by LCL Awards, plus
mentor verified portfolio completion within one year.

This pathway leads directly to ACS Category 2 or 3 eligibility for CCN1 ACS Core Domestic Gas Safety & Appliances Course and CENWAT1 Domestic Central Heating Boilers & Water Heaters (Natural Gas) Course assessments, and supports future progression into related gas modules.
