Entry Requirements

Prerequisites

No formal electrical qualifications are needed to enrol. This course welcomes both electrical and non-electrical delegates seeking an introduction to safe switchgear operation. A basic understanding of electricity and electrical systems would be advantageous, but is not essential.

All participants must be 18 or older and have a good command of both written and spoken English.

Learning Outcomes

What skills will I learn?

The HVSO6 programme teaches the principles of performing switching on power systems up to 15kV, and provides practical experience of conducting switching operations in a safe, simulated HV environment.

You’ll learn to:

  • Perform key isolation and earthing procedures
  • Apply safety documentation and regulations correctly
  • Understand operational constraints

How will I be assessed?

This course is designed to provide familiarisation with operational procedures and the potential physical constraints of high voltage systems. It is a precursor to full authorisation training. As such, there are no assessments as part of this course.

Will I receive a certificate?

Yes, upon completing the theory and practical sessions, you will receive a Certificate of Attendance.

Materials & Environment

Resources

You’ll train at one of our specialist HV facilities, where real switchgear is used in a controlled, intrinsically safe (110 V) setting. Practical sessions mirror authentic conditions, supported by expert tutors and classroom theory.
