Entry Requirements

Do I need a previous Wiring Regulations qualification?

This course is intended for electricians who already hold a City & Guilds 18th Edition Wiring Regulations qualification. We accept delegates who hold either the 2382-18 or 2382-22 qualification, and you do not need to have completed separate Amendment 2 or Amendment 3 update courses before attending.

Before booking, please ensure the following applies to you:

  • You hold a City & Guilds 2382-18 or 2382-22 qualification
  • You have a good working knowledge of the 18th Edition, including Amendments 2 and 3
  • You’re looking to update your knowledge to Amendment 4

Don’t Have the Required Qualification?

If you don’t already hold the City & Guilds 2382-18 or 2382-22 qualification, we recommend enrolling on our full City & Guilds 2382-26 18th Edition Wiring Regulations Course, which covers the complete syllabus before the examination.

Learning and Exam

What skills will I learn?

By the end of this update course, candidates will be able to confidently reference and apply the latest Wiring Regulations, including Amendment 4, to a wide range of electrical installations and practical scenarios.

During the course you will:

  • Understand the latest changes introduced in Amendment 4
  • Apply updated Wiring Regulations when designing, installing and verifying electrical installations
  • Recognise how the amended regulations affect everyday electrical work
  • Navigate the latest edition of BS 7671 efficiently
  • Prepare confidently for the City & Guilds 2382-26 examination

What to Expect from the Course and Examination

This is an intensive one-day update course designed for electricians who already hold a City & Guilds 2382-18 or 2382-22 qualification. The training focuses on the changes introduced in Amendment 4, with a brief recap of previous amendments to help prepare you for the assessment.

How you’ll be assessed:

  • Complete the City & Guilds 2382-26 online multiple-choice examination
  • The assessment lasts 2 hours
  • The exam covers the full 18th Edition syllabus, including the original Wiring Regulations together with Amendments 2, 3 and 4

As the examination covers the complete syllabus, delegates should already have a good working knowledge of the existing 18th Edition Wiring Regulations before attending.

Successful candidates will achieve a nationally recognised City & Guilds qualification, demonstrating their knowledge of BS 7671:2018+A4:2026.

Frequently Asked Questions
I don't need the exam, can I just update my knowledge for CPD?

There is no requirement to retake the City & Guilds 2382-26 exam simply because you already hold an 18th Edition qualification. Many electricians keep their knowledge up to date through continuing professional development (CPD) and other learning activities.

At PASS, we have chosen not to offer a CPD-only update course. Instead, our one-day Amendment 4 update includes the full City & Guilds 2382-26 examination, giving you both an update on the latest Wiring Regulations and formal evidence that your knowledge has been assessed against BS 7671:2018+A4:2026.

Bodies, such as building control, will look for all notifiable work to be to Amendment 4 so it may be in your best interest to be fully up to date.

For a relatively small additional cost, many electricians choose to sit the exam while they’re updating their knowledge. It provides a recognised qualification that can support employer, contractor or competent person scheme requirements, while also helping to future-proof your qualification should evidence of Amendment 4 knowledge be requested.

Is there a time limit to complete Amendment 4?

The course remains suitable after 15 October 2026; however, electricians should aim to update their knowledge before this date. From 15 October 2026, BS 7671:2018+A4:2026 becomes the current standard, following the withdrawal of the previous version.

To remain aligned with current industry expectations, electricians should ensure they are familiar with Amendment 4 when designing, installing, inspecting and testing electrical installations. If certification is completed using an edition of BS 7671 other than the one used for the installation, the applicable standard must be clearly identified on the relevant documentation.

Completing the 18th Edition Amendment 4 Update Course ensures your knowledge is up to date and helps demonstrate continued competence with the latest Wiring Regulations.

What's the difference between the full 18th Edition course and the Amendment 4 Update Course?

The 18th Edition Amendment 4 Update Course is designed for electricians who already hold the City & Guilds 2382-18 or 2382-22 qualification. Rather than covering the entire 18th Edition syllabus again, this one-day course focuses solely on the changes introduced in BS 7671:2018+A4:2026 before preparing you for the City & Guilds 2382-26 examination.

If you don’t already hold the 2382 qualification, you’ll need to complete our full 18th Edition Wiring Regulations (City & Guilds 2382-26) course, which covers the complete syllabus from start to finish.

Is this course suitable if I completed my 18th Edition several years ago?

Yes, provided you hold the City & Guilds 2382-18 or 2382-22 qualification.

However, if it’s been some time since you last used the Wiring Regulations, you may wish to spend some time refreshing your knowledge before attending, as the course assumes you’re already familiar with the previous edition.

Do I need to study before attending?

Do I need to study before attending?

Yes. As this is an intensive one-day update course, delegates are expected to have a good working knowledge of the 18th Edition Wiring Regulations, including the changes introduced in Amendments 2 and 3, before attending.

The course focuses on the new requirements introduced in Amendment 4, with a brief recap of previous amendments. As the City & Guilds 2382-26 examination covers the full 18th Edition syllabus, delegates are encouraged to refresh their knowledge before the course.

If you hold the older City & Guilds 2382-18 qualification, it’s particularly important to familiarise yourself with the changes introduced in Amendments 2 and 3 before attending, as these topics are included in the examination but are not covered in detail during the one-day update course.
