Course Topics

The course covers changes in the following areas:

  • Scope, object and fundamental principles
  • Definitions
  • Assessment of general characteristics and earthing arrangements
  • Protection for safety, including basic and fault protection
  • Selection and erection of equipment Inspection and testing
  • Special installations and locations

Throughout the day, your instructor will work through the Wiring Regulations, highlighting the amendments introduced in BS 7671:2018+A4:2026 and preparing you for the City & Guilds online examination.

Entry Requirements

Do I need a previous wiring regulations qualification?

This course is intended only for learners who already hold the City & Guilds 2382-22 18th Edition Wiring Regulations qualification (Amendment 3).

As this is an update course, it assumes you already have a solid understanding of the existing 18th Edition Wiring Regulations and simply need to learn the changes introduced by Amendment 4.

If you do not hold the City & Guilds 2382-22 qualification, you should enrol on our full City & Guilds 2382-26 18th Edition Wiring Regulations Course, which covers the complete syllabus before the online examination.

Learning Outcomes

What skills will I learn?

By the end of this update course, candidates will be able to confidently reference and apply the latest Wiring Regulations, including Amendment 4, to a wide range of electrical installations and practical scenarios.

You will:

  • Understand the latest changes introduced in Amendment 4
  • Apply updated Wiring Regulations when designing, installing and verifying electrical installations
  • Recognise how the amended regulations affect everyday electrical work
  • Navigate the latest edition of BS 7671 efficiently
  • Prepare confidently for the City & Guilds 2382-26 online examination

How will I be assessed?

Delegates undertaking the qualification will complete the City & Guilds 2382-26 online multiple-choice examination.

Although this course focuses only on Amendment 4 changes, the examination is the standard City & Guilds assessment used for the full qualification.

Delegates should therefore already have a good understanding of the previous 18th Edition Wiring Regulations before attending.

What qualification will I gain?

Upon successful completion of the examination, delegates will achieve the City & Guilds Level 3 Award in the Requirements for Electrical Installations BS 7671:2018+A4:2026 (2382-26).

Frequently Asked Questions
What's the difference between the full 18th Edition course and the Amendment 4 Update Course?

The 18th Edition Amendment 4 Update Course is designed for electricians who already hold the City & Guilds 2382-22 qualification. Rather than covering the entire 18th Edition syllabus again, this one-day course focuses solely on the changes introduced in BS 7671:2018+A4:2026 before preparing you for the City & Guilds 2382-26 examination.

If you don’t already hold the 2382-22 qualification, you’ll need to complete our full 18th Edition Wiring Regulations (City & Guilds 2382-26) course, which covers the complete syllabus from start to finish.

Do I need to study before attending?

Because this course only covers the changes introduced in Amendment 4, delegates are expected to have a good working knowledge of the existing 18th Edition Wiring Regulations. Many candidates find it helpful to familiarise themselves with the new Amendment 4 publication before attending, although your tutor will guide you through every change during the course.

Is this course suitable if I completed my 18th Edition several years ago?

Yes, provided you hold the City & Guilds 2382-22 qualification. However, if it’s been some time since you last used the Wiring Regulations, you may wish to spend some time refreshing your knowledge before attending, as the course assumes you’re already familiar with the previous edition.

I don't need the exam, can I just update my knowledge for CPD?

If you only need to update your knowledge for Continuing Professional Development (CPD), you can attend the training without taking the City & Guilds examination. Instead, you’ll take part in a tutor-led Question & Answer session and receive a CPD Attendance Certificate.
