What does the 18th Edition course cover?

This theory-based course focuses on the key updates and practical applications of BS 7671:2018+A2:2022 and Amendment 3, introduced in July 2024, ensuring learners can interpret and apply the regulations correctly.

You’ll learn to navigate the wiring regulations efficiently, with a strong focus on safety, inspection, and design changes introduced in Amendment 2.

Entry Requirements

Do I need previous qualifications to enrol?

There are no formal qualification requirements for this City & Guilds course. Those aged over 18 and with an interest in electrical installations are welcome to enrol. The programme is best suited to qualified and trainee electricians; however, those working in adjacent professions may also find it useful.

Ideal candidates include:

  • Domestic or commercial electricians
  • Maintenance engineers
  • Trainees or apprentices nearing qualification
  • Surveyors or site managers involved in installations
  • Professionals in the renewable or facilities sectors

Having some practical experience or knowledge of electrical systems will help you get the most from the course, but it’s not essential.

How will I be assessed?

This 18th Edition Course is assessed via a City & Guilds multiple-choice, open-book exam. You will have access to a clean copy of the 18th Edition Wiring Regulations throughout the test.

What qualification will I gain?

Upon passing the exam, you will be awarded a City & Guilds Level 3 Certificate in 18th Edition Regulations. This qualification is often a minimum requirement for working as a qualified electrician in the UK, especially in regulated environments or on larger projects.

Do I need this course to be an electrician?

Yes—most employers and regulatory bodies require electricians to hold the 18th Edition qualification to prove they’re working to current standards.

Is this course hard to pass?

Is the exam included?

Yes—the City & Guilds online exam is booked as part of the course and taken on-site or online with us.

What can I do after passing?

Is this the same as Part P?

No. The 18th Edition covers wiring regulations, while Part P relates to building regulations for domestic installations. They often go hand in hand, but they’re separate qualifications.

Do I need to do this if I already hold a 17th Edition certificate?

Yes, standards have changed significantly with 18th Edition. You need to be up to date to remain compliant.
